Horeca Kuwait, the fourth annual meeting place for hospitality and foodservice industries in Kuwait, closed its doors on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 after a record-breaking three-day show held at Kuwait Regency Palace.

Within 900 square meters of net stand space and 4 0 exhibitors, Kuwait’s premier exhibition for the hospitality and foodservice industries provided hotel suppliers with the opportunity to meet key players in order to present their products and identify new marketing

Events held during the show

An array of activities and social networking events took place at the fourth edition of Horeca Kuwait.

Culinary Art Show

The Culinary Art Show was an opportunity for chefs and their teams to show off their culinary skills. They competed in different categories:

 

 

 

  • Table-setting decoration under the theme of “1001, Bronze medal went to Royal Hayat Hospital
  • Chocolate showpiece: Gold medal went to Moduka Prosanna from Rose Pastry and to Mangla Pushpa Chamirda from Safir International Hotel Kuwait
  • Cold platter of fish ,poultry or meat: Gold medal went to Budhika Hemantha from Marina Hotel Kuwait
  • ive cold sandwich-making competition: Silver medal went to Budhiak Hemantha from Marina Hotel Kuwait and Prakash from Kuwait Catering Company
  • Live cooking competition from the basket: Bronze medal went to Ajith Kumar from Kuwait Catering Company, Chamilla de Silva from Marina Hotel Kuwait, Mohammad Sameem from Movenpick Resort & Residence Al Bidaa Kuwait, Komang Agus Artha and Vikram Nowruissing from Royale Hayat Hospital, Sanjeewa Liyanage from Marina Hotel Kuwait
  • ive traditional arabic mezza: Gold medal went to Wail Khalif, Ummer Thalapil, Anthony Purification from Marina Hotel Kuwait
  • Three plate set diner menu: Silver medal went to Harj Sharan from Al Manshar Rotana Hotel, Frankie from Kuwait Catering Company, K.M.S Priyashantha from Safir International Hotel Kuwait
  • hree tier decorated wedding cake: Silver medal went to Soneetha D'souza from Safir International Hotel Kuwait

The judging panel was made of internationally renowned judges and supported by the Academie Nationale de Cuisine - France.


The 2nd Barista Competition Mohamed Naser Al Hajery & Sons LTD carried out the second Illy Barista competition in Kuwait. The best Baristas from cafés, restaurants and hotels competed in front of an international coffee expert's jury from Italy, France, Lebanon, and Kuwait.
Each participant in the Championship was asked to prepare three Illy based coffees: Illy Espresso, Illy Cappuccino and Illy coffee based cocktail of the barista’s own creation. Evaluation criteria range from preparation techniques to taste, presentation, aroma, timing and other factors. All competitors won valuable prizes and
are already anxious for next year's event.

The New Dilmah Tea Launch Event For the first time in Kuwait, Dilmah tea revealed the true art of tea brewing. A Ceylon tea expert attended this event demonstrating the authenticity, variety, and quality of Dilmah tea.

“Academie Nationale de Cuisine” – France With the collaboration of A.D.F.T.H.(Association pour le dévélopment Touristic et Hotelière) and the support of the Regional delegate of the French Cuisine Academy, Mr. Nouhad Dammous; the French Ambassador, Mr. Jean – René Gehan, hosted in his residence, selected vips and Hotel managers to award Mr. Mohamad Najia an industry colleague with over 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry, holding many positions, namely Hospitality Advisor to the Kuwait Hotel Owners Association. Najia was elevated to the “Dignité d’Academicien de l’Academie Nationale de Cuisine de France” in the presence of Chef Semaan Hilal, Active member at the Kuwait chapter of the academy and academy representative.
